About SILA ŞENTÜRK

Turkish pianist Sıla Şentürk is a multifaceted soloist, chamber musician and teacher. As an avid contemporary musician, she especially enjoys performing music by female composers. Senturk was named as one of the “Women Stars of Tomorrow” by the Istanbul Foundation of Culture and Arts in and is a recent recipient of The Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation grant as well as the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Foundation grant. She is currently a member of the Cali Collective Ensemble in Montclair State University.

 

As a performer, Sıla has given concerts in highly acclaimed venues such as Harvard Club of New York, Steinway & Sons Hall, Blue Gallery, Arthur Zankel Hall in Saratoga Springs. Her last solo recital project, combined elements visual arts and electronic soundscape and was a fundraiser in collaboration with the CME (Chamber Music Exchange) to help musicians affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkey.

Her most recent collaborations include performances with the Mystic Chamber Music Series as well as the contemporary music ensembles such as Tactus, Camerata Nova, the Manhattan School of Music’s Percussion Ensemble in collaboration with Christopher Lamb, principal percussionist of the  New York Philharmonic.  She is the recipient of several awards including the Steinway & Sons prize winner at the Bilkent Piano Festival, San Giacomo Festival Prize at the Lunigiana International Music Festival and first prize in Valletta International Piano Competition in Malta. She made her orchestral debut performing M. Ravel’s G Major Piano Concerto with the Eskisehir State Symphony under the baton of Işın Metin. 

 

She has participated in a variety of festivals such as Mostly Modern Festival, Lunigiana International Music Festival, Princeton University Golandsky Institute Summer Symposium and The Taubman Approach in Europe Workshop Series. 

 

During her time at the Manhattan School of Music, Senturk worked closely with the members of the American String Quartet as well as Dr. Heasook Rhee. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master's degree from MSM where she studied with Dr. Marc Silverman.
